With all of us being more health conscious these days, and putting quality over quantity, it is safe to say Silicone is a big time favourite as a sex toy material.

3 well-known and recognized, sextoy reviewers express their opinions below as to why they rate silicone as being the “Superior Sextoy Material”

Nymphomaniac NessI first invested in silicone toys because I suffer allergies that can be triggered by certain materials, especially ones containing latex or phthalates. Silicone is a body safe material that is even used in medical equipment. As well as being body safe, it is easily sterilised as its surface is virtually nonporous. Silicone toys are best used with a water-based lubricant, and you’ll probably need a lot of it. Its temperature can be adjusted by putting it under warm or cold water; it will even adjust to your own body heat slightly during use, making the experience feel more natural. Most silicone toys are fairly firm with a moderate amount of plushiness, but there are some that have a softer outer surface that is meant to feel closer to human flesh.

Black Silk: Silicone is an incredibly versatile material. It can range anywhere from as hard as solid plastic to as soft and squishy as skin and some toys even combine the two for a surprisingly realistic feel. My favourite dildos are all silicone but vary so much that I can always find one to suit my mood. What's more, it's super-safe, so my toys come worry-free.

Midnight Boudoir: When I first started buying sextoys 30 years ago I never considered that the rubber and jelly toys that stunk for weeks maybe were bad for me. There certainly was no advice available to tell me what's best for my body as silicone sextoys weren't readily available...jeeze that makes me sound old.

So I'm relieved to say now why I love silicone toys, it has so many benefits as well as being completely safe for your body.  Silicone is one of the best sextoy materials because it is non-porous, phthalate free and hypoallergenic and I would recommend them to anyone having allergic reactions to sextoys especially those allergic to latex.

But a downside is that they tend to be a more expensive because it is dearer to produce. But you can guarantee you will be completely safe.

Silicone toys warm quickly to your body and hold the warm temperature well for sensory play.

They feel smooth to touch, a velvety feel, making the toys very luxurious. They carry the vibrations well and are tasteless, odourless and come in a great range of colours, shapes and densities depending on the manufacturer.  The majority tend to be firm but still flexible, something I prefer to bendy jelly toys.

You can only use a waterbased lube, as silicone lubes will degrade your toys as well as other silicone toys, so always store carefully in make-up bags or in their own storage boxes as, despite being durable, they can scratch easily on sharp edges.

Being waterproof and non-porous you can sterilise your silicone dildos (not vibrators) by boiling for 3-5 minutes, then wipe using soap, rubbing alcohol or bleach solution (depending on manufacturer’s instructions), then thoroughly rinse your toys (something that should be done regularly, especially if sharing your toys, to prevent transmission of bacteria).

Medical grade silicone, or 100% silicone, is long lasting and is chemically inert meaning the material is resistant to UV light, ozone and oxygen. Quite often I have noticed they also come with a 10-year guarantee.

A simple home test is to hold a flame to the silicone and it should be able to take it for a few seconds, as the silicone toys should be heat resistant up to 120C.

I personally will not be flame testing my toys as I trust the companies I deal with who say it’s 100% silicone in the product details, so there is no need for us to be trying to melt our toys yet!

Certain companies are definitely moving towards manufacturing 100% silicone toys eg; Lelo, Tantus, Fun Factory and Vixen products that are guaranteed safe for our bodies.

I have quite a collection of medical grade silicone toys and they really stand out form the rest.  You cannot help but stroke and touch the luxurious textures of these toys

So after a Silicone session it is fair to say, we all should love Silicone Vibrators and sex toys. Thank you to our three star pupils - Ness, BlackSilk and Midnight - you have definitely done your silicone homework!
